LAMal - Physiotherapy
With a medical referral, basic insurance (LAMal) covers physiotherapy sessions according to official tariffs: usually a first series of 9 sessions, renewable. You only pay the deductible and the co-payment.
Referral requiredInsurance & reimbursement
In Switzerland physiotherapy and osteopathy are widely covered - but the rules change depending on the treatment. Here is how it works, clearly.
With a medical referral, basic insurance (LAMal) covers physiotherapy sessions according to official tariffs: usually a first series of 9 sessions, renewable. You only pay the deductible and the co-payment.
Referral requiredOsteopathy and massage therapy are not part of basic insurance but are often reimbursed by complementary insurance (complementary medicine), usually at a percentage per session up to an annual cap. Check your policy: we help you read it.
Direct accessOur therapists are recognised by the RME and ASCA (EMR) registers: this is the condition complementary insurers require to reimburse osteopathy and massage therapy. The invoice carries all the codes you need for your reimbursement claim.
Depends on the caseIf your condition comes from an accident, rehabilitation is covered by accident insurance (LAINF), through your employer or your own policy. In these cases we handle the paperwork directly with the insurer.
Depends on the caseHow it works
With a doctor's referral for physiotherapy, or by direct access for osteopathy and massage.
A clear invoice with all the RME/ASCA codes needed for your reimbursement claim.
Send it to your health insurer. For physiotherapy by referral we bill directly where possible.
For physiotherapy by referral we bill the health insurer directly where possible (third-party payer). For osteopathy and massage you pay the session and send the invoice to your complementary insurer for reimbursement.
Under LAMal, usually a first series of 9 sessions with a referral, renewable on the doctor's indication. For complementary insurance it depends on your policy: the annual cap and percentage vary by insurer.
For osteopathy and massage, yes, through complementary insurance and thanks to RME/ASCA recognition. For physiotherapy reimbursed by basic insurance you do need a medical referral.
Reimbursement conditions vary by insurer and policy. On the first call we check your coverage together, so you know exactly what to expect.
